  65. INSTALLATION
  66.  
  67. This is an EINet PC software distribution 2.0 for use with
  68. Microsoft Windows 3.1.
  69.  
  70. This EINet software distribution uses the Windows Sockets
  71. (winsock) API version 1.1 and assumes you have properly 
  72. installed and configured the appropriate network TCP/IP
  73. support software.   EINet winWAIS has been tested and
  74. works with Frontier Technologies Super-TCP Version 2.1,
  75. NetManage NEWT/ChameleonNFS Version 3.1, Novell LAN
  76. Workplace for DOS 4.1, Beame & Whiteside TCP/IP 3.0c
  77. (and later versions), Sun PC-NFS, and FTP Software's
  78. PC/TCP.
  79.  
  80. This software may also work with other Windows
  81. Sockets 1.1 compliant TCP/IP implementations, depending
  82. on their adherance to the Windows Sockets 1.1 Specification.

  84. For installation from the self-extracting PKZIP archive file (EWAIS200.EXE):
  85.   1.  Decompress the EWAIS200.EXE distribution file by placing the
  86.       file in a temporary directory on your hard drive (other than
  87.       the directory to which the software is being installed).  Then
  88.       run the EWAIS200.EXE file from the DOS prompt or from the Windows
  89.       File Manager or Program Manager.  The files contained within
  90.       EWAIS200.EXE will be decompressed and placed in that temporary
  91.       directory.
  92.   2.  Using the Windows Program Manager's "File Run" command,
  93.       run "SETUP.EXE" in the temporary directory.  Follow the
  94.       instructions presented by the setup procedure.

  96. For installation from distribution diskettes:
  97.       Place the first diskette in the drive and from the Windows
  98.       Program Manager's "File Run" command, run the SETUP program
  99.       on that diskette (for example, "B:\SETUP").  Follow the
  100.       instructions presented by the installation setup procedure.

  110. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

  112. If, while running SETUP, you encounter an error in finding or copying 
  113. a file or a "file in use" error for a file such as: LZEXPAND.DLL or 
  114. COMMDLG.DLL or CMDIALOG.VBX or THREED.VBX try the following:
  115.   1.  Restart windows and run the SETUP procedure again.
  116.   2.  If you encounter the problem again and if the file
  117.       associated with the problem is already installed on your system,
  118.       run EISETUP from your WINDOWS directory and follow the 
  119.       instructions presented.
  120.   3.  If you still encounter the problem, restart windows,
  121.       rename the problematic file as a backup file name
  122.       (e.g. THREED.VBX -> THREED.BAK) and retry the SETUP procedure.

  124. About Windows Sockets:
  125. The WINSOCK.DLL Windows Sockets library is NOT a part of this
  126. distribution and must be obtained and installed separately.
  127. It is available from a wide variety of vendors.
  128.  
  129. Also a note for Novell Lan Workplace for DOS owners:
  130. YOU must obtain their WINSOCK.DLL directly from Novell.  They have made
  131. their beta version of WINSOCK.DLL available on the Internet.  Contact
  132. Novell for details.

  222. winWAIS: Under certain conditions at program exit, winWAIS
  223. might attempt to delete files in its "temp file directory"

  228. software was running, the winWAIS application would terminate
  229. upon attempting to highlight text in the internal text viewer.

  233. WAIS document type that has no associated viewer designated

  237. see if Windows has a viewer associated with it.  If it does,
  238. the user is given the option of setting that viewer as the
  239. default viewer for WAIS documents of that type. (WAIS.EXE)
